Amazon Wants You to Pay With a Selfie

featureWith mobile becoming increasingly important in the world of commerce, Amazon wants to make "pay with a selfie" a solution when checking out online.

Amazon recently filed a patent application that would make it so shoppers can purchase a product by taking a photo, or video of themselves rather than typing in a password.

The patent application, filed in October last year, was initially spotted by Re/Code.

Amazon believes selfies are a safer solution when compared to facial recognition software, which "can be spoofed by holding a picture of the user in front of the camera as the resulting two-dimensional image can look substantially the same whether taken of the user or a picture of the user".

In February, Mastercard confirmed that it will start accepting selfies as an alternative to passwords when verifying IDs online.
