How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
Our first sales came through word of mouth. We got out there and hustled! We were going into people's homes to teach them about how to keep their home health and also reduce their energy consumption. Once we had built up trust with these homeowners, we were able to sell products to them directly.
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
The back-end of our business is pretty straight forward. The Shopify platform is AWESOME and it's allowed us to get going very quickly.
We have customized our store tremendously to build out a very professional website that is more than just an ecommerce store.
Apps we use everyday are Yotpo reviews, Stitch Labs for inventory management, One Saas for accounting integration, MailChimp, ShipStation for shipping and fulfilment.
What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?
Talk to people - as many people as you can! Get out there and understand your customers - if you don't - you'll lose.
Also - make sure your costing & pricing is appropriate - things like inventory costs, shipping costs, currency conversion can really eat into your margins. It's very important to understand your actual costs before you set your prices.
